History

Jeremiah Gould was one of the original homesteaders in the area that would eventually be known as Castle Rock. He owned 160 acres of farm and ranch land just south of The Rock formation, and shared homesteads with only a handful of prospectors and settlers. He would eventually donate 120 acres of those lands to the local government to be used to start a proper town, in 1874. The first train tracks were completed less than a year later, and soon the community was shipping out tons of rhyolite ore while new settlers came in. Throughout the years, Castle Rock has developed into a major center for growth, but rhyolite still remains to be one of its top resources.
